West All-Stars Prepare for Combine, All-Star Game

El Paso, TX - Senior football players from the 34 El Paso County high schools take part in an exciting football combine and football game highlighted with a spectacular pre-game and dazzling halftime festivities which include outstanding football players, cheerleaders, band members, dance/drill teams, ROTC cadets, and choir members.   The Senior All Star Football Classic is supported by a dedicated all volunteer committee, coaching staff, and generous sponsors.  All proceeds from the game go directly back to the seniors in the form of scholarships.   El Paso graduating seniors have been awarded 625 scholarships totaling $498,500.00.

 Greater El Paso Football Showcase Combine has been in existence since Dec. 2011.

 Limited to high school seniors, all participants must have a recorded SAT or ACT score prior to the combine and meet one of the three criteria:  Minimum SAT of 800 or ACT of 16, GPA of 2.2 or higher, or in the top one half of their graduating class.

 Seniors will be measured in the 40 yard dash, bench press, vertical leap measurement, and 30 yard shuttle.

 This year, over 46 college coaches are expected to attend representing over 35 colleges.  These colleges attend with intent to offer scholarships immediately to the El Paso athletes.  Scholarships may be athletic, academic, or financial need.

 Since 2011, over 100 El Paso football players have attended college and received a total of over approximately $11.2 million worth of scholarships.

 Spectators are invited to attend.

PRE GAME FESTIVITIES:  Senior JROTC Cadets present an 18’ by 50’ American flag.  Seniors from El Paso county will comprise the All Star Choir and will accompany the Andress and Bowie HS choir to sing the National Anthem.   Player introductions will begin at approximately 12:50 p.m.

25TH CELEBRATION: To celebrate the 25th event, all former participants in the All Star game are invited to be recognized on the field! Alumni may sign up to participate at gepfs.com.

PARKING/TAILGATING:  South Tunnel (P-5), Press Box (P-7) and Sun Bowl Dr. parking across from UTEP

Bookstore (S-4) are by permit only.  Handicap parking in Press Box lot.  No restrictions on tailgating.  Parking is free in the south parking garage off Sun Bowl Drive.



WEST HEAD COACH:   Don Brooks – retired in 2011, coached for 34 years at Coronado High School, won total of

229 games (one of the most winning coaches in Texas), inducted into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame, Top of Texas

Hall of Fame, and Coronado Golden T-Birds Hall of Fame.  This is his fourth year as head coach in the All Star game.

EAST HEAD COACH:   Phil Hatch – current athletic administrator at Ysleta ISD, former high school principal, former coach at Jefferson and Bowie High School, fullback for UTEP Miners.  Twenty-second year as head coach, 6 years as West coach, 16 years as East coach.


ALL STAR TEAM:  Ninety two football players from across El Paso county have been selected by the All Star selection committee to participate in the game.  Each team holds practices for two weeks prior to the game, receives a commemorative All Star jersey and t-shirt.  West will wear navy blue jerseys, East will wear red jerseys.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE:  Each team practices from December 5 – 15, 2016.  West practices are held at Canutillo High School from 6 – 8 pm.  East practices are held at Socorro ISD SAC from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.

JUNIOR ALL STAR MENTOR DAY:  The All Star football players will participate in a Junior All Star Mentor Day on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Sun Bowl.  Students in 5th and 6th grade from across the county will be paired with a player.  The Junior All Star will have a photo taken with their “all star” then participate in team building workshop, have lunch, a tour of the UTEP campus, and view a movie at a local movie theater. Keynote speaker will be Parkland HS principal Dr. Darryl Henson. The event will begin at 9:00 am.

MEDIA DAY:  All Star players will be available for interviews or photos on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the Sun Bowl.  Players from both teams will be available for interviews:  West at 12:30 pm, East at 1:00 pm.

MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS:   MVP trophies awarded to an outstanding offensive and defensive player selected from the West team AND East Team immediately following the game.  One player from each team will be awarded the “Hut Brown Leadership Award” and “Edd Fifer Courage Award.”  Fans will be invited on to the field for autographs following the MVP announcement.


All El Paso County seniors will perform alongside several area marching bands during a halftime led by a guest conductor. The show will include a choreographed dance performance coordinated by Laura’s Production.  Full marching bands participating are: Austin HS, Irvin HS, Del Valle HS, Montwood HS, Horizon HS, and Canutillo HS.


PRE GAME:  $6 per person available after Dec. 1 at area high schools.  Children 6 and under free.

GAME DAY:   $8 per person at North, South, and Press Box ticket booths
